The Suspended Cage is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw 3D.
Design and Function
This trap was the first trap in Bobby's Trial. The victim was trapped in a large cylindrical metal cage, which was suspended by a pulley system several feet above the floor. Below the cage were two adjoined metal platforms with several large spikes attached to them. To escape the cage, the victim had to pull a lever hanging from the ceiling. Thereby, the bottom of the cage would fall off. To avoid falling down and being impaled by the spikes, the victim had to swing back and forth and jump off to safety. (Saw 3D)

The person tested in this trap was Bobby Dagen, a man who had gained wealth and fame by publishing his book "S.U.R.V.I.V.E. - My Story of Overcoming Jigsaw", in which he told his readers how he supposedly survived a deadly trap set up by the Jigsaw Killer and how his life developed afterwards. In fact however, he had never been tested by the killer and his whole story was nothing but a lie, which ultimately him to become a target of John Kramer, the real Jigsaw Killer. After the latter's death, Bobby was subdued and abducted by Detective Mark Hoffman, Jigsaw's successor, who took him to the abandoned Clear Dawn Psychiatric Hospital, where he had prepared a deadly game for him.
Shortly afterwards, Bobby awoke in a dark finding himself trapped in a large cylindrical metal cage. Immediately afraid of his situation, he screamed for help. In an attempt to free himself from the cage, he repeatedly tried to kick off the bottom of the cage when suddenly a TV turned on in front of him, showing a mechanical ventriloquist puppet. The puppet introduced Bobby to his game and confronted him with the fact that all of his stories about surviving a trap had been nothing but lies. At the next moment, the TV showed Joyce, who was trapped with a chain around her neck at an unknown location. Distressed and in fear, Bobby begged Jigsaw for mercy. However only seconds later, a 60-minute-timer was activated and began counting down. The puppet told Bobby that he'd have to face a series of tests in order to gain access to his wife, who he had lied to as well. If he failed to complete his game in time - she would die.
As the tape ended, the lights around Bobby were turned on, the cage moving up right and suspending several feet above the floor by a pulley system. This prompted two grated platforms with several large spikes attached to them to release down onto the floor beneath the cage. Frantic to escape - Bobby pulled the lever hanging from the ceiling, causing the bottom of the cage to fall off, nearly dropping him to his demise however he managed to hold onto the bars of the cage. Understanding what he needed to do to survive, he began swinging back and forth until he was able to jump from the cage and land on the floor beyond the spikes to safety.
