The Spotlight Carousel is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw II: Flesh & Blood.

Design and Function

As the name suggests, this trap resembled a giant carousel. It contained of a large, circular base plate, which constantly rotated. It was divided into several segments by a number of big fences. On the ceiling above it, there were two large contraptions, resembling giant rotary clothesline. Attached to those were numerous red spotlights, which lightened the carousel. While these lights posed no threat to most people, there were some victims of Jigsaw, who were forced to wear devices such as mechanical collars or vests, which would detonate if they stepped into the light. Therefore, the victims who wanted to reach the other side of the room had to find a way past the fences dividing the carousel while also avoiding the red lights. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Michael on the carousel

The victim of this trap was Michael Tapp, a reporter and son of the late Detective David Tapp. While facing a series of tests set up by John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer, Michael made his way through an abandoned railway building and thereby came across the carousel. As Michael went further, a TV turned on in front of him, showing a recording of a mechanical ventriloquist puppet, which warned him to avoid the spotlights as they would immediately activate the shotgun vest he was wearing. Nonetheless, Michael had to enter the carousel. To get to the other side of the room, he had to find a way past the fences while avoiding the red lights. By carefully moving forward, Michael ultimately overcame this obstacle and went on. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
