The Revolver Trap is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw II: Flesh & Blood.

Design and Function

The victim of this trap was shackled to the armrests of a chair in front of a large, wooden target. Right in front of them was an upright standing metal pole. Attached to its upper end was a revolver, which aimed in the victim's mouth. To prevent them from moving away to avoid being shot, their head was held in place by a metal brace. To survive, the test subject had to rely on the help of a second person. Next to the chair was a panel with 30 buttons. The panel was connected to a contraption, which had a gear attached to it. This gear was positioned right next to the gun's trigger. Attached to it was a single metal pin. Everytime one of the buttons on the panel was pressed, the gear turned in a clockwise direction. Each of the buttons was connected to a small light. By pressing it, the second test subject could turn this light on and off. However, upon doing so, the light of the surrounding buttons was switched as well. Therefore, the person had to press the buttons in the right order to turn off all the light with as few clicks as possible. If they failed this task, the revolver would eventually fire a shot in the first victim's mouth, killing them in the process. However, if the other person was successful, the pole holding the gun would fall back to the floor and the victim on the chair would be released from the shackles. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

History

Michael Tapp's Test

Hello, Henry. When you were promoted to chief of police, you vowed to rid the streets of drug abuse. But like any politician, you have become part of the problem, instead of the solution. You have defiled the oath you made to protect the public. Now usually, when an officer of the law falls as low as you, they take their own life - they eat the gun. Allow me to help you with that. You must switch off each panel of lights, but be careful - each button pressed brings the gun closer to firing. Switch off all the lights on each panel or it's lights out. Detective Tapp shot himself because he couldn't see the light. This is your chance to see the light - by turning them off. Live or die, Henry.

Henry in the trap

The persons tested in this trap were Michael Tapp, a reporter and son of the late Detective David Tapp, and Chief Henry Jacobs, the corrupt chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, who was involved in a drug cartel. After having been abducted by Pighead II, an accomplice of John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer, Michael had to face a series of tests. While making his way through the abandoned Holmes Hotel, he eventually reached the severely battered Henry, who was shackled to a chair in the ballroom, with the revolver in his mouth. Moments later, a TV turned on above them and a mechanical ventriloquist puppet appeared on the screen. It confronted Henry with his crimes and his involvement in the cartel, despite his promises to rid the city of drug-related crimes. Furthermore, it informed him and Michael about the rules of the game, saying that Henry would die if they didn't manage to switch off all the lights on the panel next to him.

Michael faces his test

When the tape ended and the TV turned off again, Michael tried to find the right order to click the switches and turn off the lights. Eventually, he managed to do so and the metal pole holding the gun aiming in Henry's mouth fell back to the floor. Seconds later, Henry was released from his shackles. Afterwards, he told Michael that Jigsaw had abducted several other people, who were somehow involved in Michael's father's suicide. Despite some initial hesitation, Michael ultimately decided to go on to save the others, while Henry tried to make it to the entrance to find help. After that, the two of them separated, leaving the deadly trap behind. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)
