Pete's Auto Body is a fictional location from the Saw franchise as well as an important location in Saw 3D.

Layout and Structure[]

Pete's Auto Body was a junkyard at 58th Street. Numerous auto parts and car wrecks were stacked all around the big area. The owner's office was located in a building in this area. This building had a big garage for the repair and assessment of cars. Next to it was a small toilet room and a hidden door leading to a long hallway with several shelves with tools and repair parts. At the end of the hallway was the office, which was later turned into a surveillance room by Detective Mark Hoffman, successor of the late John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer. From this room, he could observe the garage as well the police station on several monitors. (Saw 3D)

History[]

Revenge Plan[]

After the death of John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer, his deadly games were continued by his apprentice and successor, Detective Mark Hoffman. Unknown to him, John had instructed his ex-wife, Jill Tuck, to test Hoffman after his death and had therefore left her one of his vicious devices, a Reverse Bear Trap. Jill carried out John's final request and put Hoffman in the trap. However, she didn't give him a chance to escape. To her shock, Hoffman managed to escape the trap nonetheless, albeit heavily injured. As Jill, who witnessed his survival, revealed his identity to Matt Gibson, an officer working for the Internal Affairs Division, she was taken into protective custody. To get his revenge on her, Hoffman created a complex plan and therefore planned to put the police forces under pressure in order to get to her.

Throughout the next weeks, Hoffman's wounds healed for the most part, enabling him to finally put the last phase of his plan into operation. He set up a game at the abandoned Clear Dawn Psychiatric Hospital, which had been planned by John Kramer prior to his death. This game focused on Bobby Dagen, a man who had earned much fame and wealth by publishing his story of surviving one of Jigsaw's traps, which in fact never happened. After finishing the preparations, he went to Pete's Auto Body. In a secret room behind a hidden wall, he set up several surveillance monitors and hacked into the police station's camera system, therefore enabling him to watch everything that happened inside the building. Additionally, he set up another deadly trap consisting of a sentry gun which would kill any invaders who entered the room.

Hoffman Flashback III

Hoffman records the video

After that, he places the statue of an angel, which looked exactly like a statue from the Crossroad Manufactory on a pedestal. Years earlier, he had saved Gibson's life, when the latter had been attacked by a former inmate of the Clear Dawn Hospital. With the statue behind him, Hoffman recorded a video message for Gibson. In the video, he told him to give Jill to him and in return promised to end the next game. If Gibson refused to take the offer, Hoffman threatened him that everyone would die. (Saw 3D)

Evan's Test[]

Afterwards, he arranged a new game in the garage and used it to trap Evan, Kara, Dan and Jake, a group of racist skinheads. After setting up the game, Hoffman went to a church, where he wanted to abduct Bobby Dagen, his wife and his crew. When Evan woke up, he immediately panicked as his back was glued to the driver's seat of a jacked-up car. An audio tape told him that he and his friends were chosen for a deadly game due to their racism. As Evan was the leader of the group, he was the only one able to save them. The tape further informed him that he had 30 seconds to tear himself away from the seat and pull a red lever in front of him in order to stop the car from speeding up and starting a deadly chain reaction which would kill him and his friends.

When the tape ended, the timer began to count down and the car, while still being in its jacked-up position, started to speed up. Incited by his fear and the fanatical screams of his friends, Evan tried to get away from his seat. Despite the great amount of pain, he was able to rip off most of the skin from his back. However, he ultimately failed as the timer went off before he could free himself. This caused the jacks holding up the car to fall and Kara, who was tied up under the car, was crushed to death by the rear tire. When the car started to drive off, Dan's arms and his low ever jaw, which were pierced by chains connected to the back of the car, were ripped from his body. The car then crushed through the garage door, killing Jake, who was chained to the door. Despite his desperate efforts to gain control over the car, Evan ultimately crashed head on into another car in the junkyard, which caused him to be ejected out of his car and thrown right into the other car's back window. (Saw 3D)

Ultimatum[]

Shortly afterwards, Hoffman returned to the junkyard. As the game had played out, he placed the Reverse Beartrap, which Jill had used in her attempt to kill him, in the toilet room of the garage, right before the door to his secret surveillance room. Additionally, he wrote a message for Gibson on a mirror, telling him to "see for himself." Finally, he set up a bomb in one of the many car wrecks before he went into hiding in his room, shortly before the police arrived at the crime scene. Hoffman then recorded a second video, again with the angel in the background, in which he told Gibson to "look beyond the crossroads to the clear dawn", thereby hinting at the incident at the manufactory as well as the location of Bobby's game. Then, he sent the video over several proxy servers to Gibson. (Saw 3D)

Rogers informs Gibson about the trap

Minutes later, the Metropolitan Police Department was informed about a car accident at the junkyard. However, when Officer Rogers, Matt Gibson's partner, arrived at the scene, he quickly realized that the supposed accident was actually another Jigsaw trap. Therefore, he called Gibson, who ordered him not to let anyone to the crime scene, including the homicide division. When he arrived at the scene, he immediately listened to the audio tape, which had contained the instructions for Evan. The tape however was severely damaged. Therefore, Gibson gave it to one of the forensics for further examination. After that, he discussed the new situation with Rogers as it was suspicious that the new game had been played in such a rather public place. While Rogers assumed that Hoffman just wanted to put on a show, Gibson was convinced that there was more behind it. Afterwards, he took a look at the severely humiliated corpses of the other three victims and ordered a coroner to send them to the morgue as they had to be abducted immediately. Suddenly, he was called to an adjacent toilet room by Rogers. Upon entering, he saw the words "Gibson, See For Yourself" written on a mirror in red letters. Furthermore, he found a blood-smeared beartrap left there by Hoffman and ordered Rogers to send it to the lab, hoping that fingerprints might be found on it.

Hoffman detonates the bomb

While Gibson took Jill Tuck to a safe house for key witnesses, Rogers stayed at the junkyard. Meanwhile, Hoffman, who observed the junkyard from the secret surveillance room, detonated the bomb placed in one of the car wrecks and therefore lured all the cops to the outside of the garage. Rogers called Gibson to inform him about the explosion, when seconds later, another bomb detonated. Therefore, Gibson told him to let the bomb squad search the junkyard before they went on with their investigation. Meanwhile, Hoffman embraced his opportunity, left the secret room and took the mutilated corpse of Dan from his body bag. He dragged the dead body into the room, put a black cloak on him and placed him on a chair in front of the surveillance monitors. Afterwards, he left the room again and hid himself in the body bag. Shortly afterwards, he and the three remaining corpses of Dan's friends were taken to the morgue for their obduction by Dr. Adam Heffner. (Saw 3D)

Matt Gibson's Death[]

Gibson in the hallway

Later that evening, Officer Palmer managed to trace the second video sent by Hoffman to the junkyard and immediately informed Gibson. Only minutes later, he arrived at the junkyard and immediately went to the toilet room where Hoffman had written the message for him on the mirror, accompanied by two officers armed with shotguns. After securing the room, he quickly realized that the wall with the mirror was actually a hidden door. Therefore, he took the shotgun from one of his colleagues and smashed the mirror. After that, he broke through the door and entered the hidden hallway along with the officers. Thereby, they finally reached a surveillance room where they saw a hooded figure sitting in front of the monitors. Thinking it was Hoffman, Gibson aimed his gun at him and ordered him to show his hands. The person however didn't react. While holding him at gunpoint, Gibson carefully approached and ultimately kicked him off the chair. Upon doing so, he realized that the figure wasn't Hoffman, but Dan, one of the four victims of the car trap. Initially confused, Gibson noticed the angel statue from Hoffman's video standing on a pedestal.

He then took a look at the monitors, which showed the police station. When he saw that Hoffman had hacked their camera security system, he realized that Hoffman had hidden himself in Dan's body bag in order to infiltrate the station through the morgue. Therefore, he called Palmer and ordered her to call all officers back to the station immediately. However, before he could tell her the reason for his panic, the sentry gun previously set up by Hoffman emerged behind him and started to fire before he could react, thereby killing Gibson and the other officers while Palmer listened to the shots on the phone. (Saw 3D)

Aftermath[]

The corpses of Gibson and the two officers, as well as the dead bodies of Jill Tuck and several police officers murdered by Hoffman, were found shortly afterwards. The events surrounding the massacre at the police station were reported to the public by the news channels the same night. Thereby, everyone with information about the whereabouts of Mark Hoffman was requested to go to the police immediately. (Saw 3D)
