or "Hear No Evil" & "The Deafening Mask"
Inscribed on the door to this trap were the words: "Ignore your detractors"
Bobby enters a room on the second story of the building that is missing it's floorboards, with the exception of a series of torn-apart beams, destroyed arches, and wooden planks. Bobby finds his closest friend, Cale, on the other end of the room, equipped with a mask that covers his eyes and ears so that he can't see anything and it is difficult for him to hear. He also has a collar around his neck with a chain leading from the ceiling to the back of it, attached to a winch. If Cale were to fall, the winch would lift him off his feet and he would be hanged. When Bobby plays the tape for his test, he learns that he must grab a key located in the center of the room that is out of Cale's reach, while guiding the disabled Cale to a close enough distance so that Bobby can toss him the key that would release his noose before a timer expires and Cale is hanged.
Hello Bobby. Across from you is your closest friend. He knows all your sins, yet he acts as though he "hears no evil". Today, what he hears will be the difference between life and death. Bobby you must help Cale to walk over the planks and get as close to you as possible. Find your own way across the beams to the key. You must get it over the last span between you. If the noose around Cale's neck is not removed within sixty seconds, a winch will be engaged and your secret will be left hanging. Does Cale live or die Bobby? The choice is yours."
Bobby Dagen's tape
Bobby shouts loudly enough for Cale to hear him through his mask, telling him to pay close attention to every word he says. While navigating the numerous arches and beams to get to the key, Bobby simultaneously instructs Cale across one of the wooden planks, towards Bobby, causing Cale to knock over a carefully placed glass bottle and leading him into a panic. Bobby calms him down and guides him towards the center of the room, where Cale nearly falls through one of the wooden boards but grasps a beam to prevent himself from falling. Bobby gets a hold of the key and, in the last few seconds, tells Cale to cup his hands together at his chest so that he can catch it, but when Bobby throws the key, Cale fumbles it and it slips through his fingers. The clock reaches zero and Cale is subsequently launched into the air on the winch and hanged by the noose, as Bobby watches on in horror.
- Like other main traps in Bobby's test, this trap alternative name, "Hear No Evil", may be a reference to the Three Wise Monkeys (Kikazaru, the one who covers his ears), from the Japanese myth. In the Western world, their phrase is often used to refer to those who deal with impropriety by looking the other way, refusing to acknowledge it, or feigning ignorance.
