The Shotgun Door Trap is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw: The Video Game.

Design and Function[]

This trap consisted of a single shotgun, which was attached to a wall above a door. A metal weight was connected to the trigger. Once the door was opened, the weight was lowered down and thereby pulled the trigger, causing the shotgun to fire a shot. As there was no way to deactivate these traps from the other side of the room, the victims who came across it had no other choice but to exercise extreme caution. (Saw: The Video Game)

History[]

The Whitehurst Incident[]

Many of these traps were set up all over the abandoned Whitehurst Insane Asylum, where John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer, had set up a big game, which primarily focused on David Tapp, a discharged detective who was obsessed with catching him. However, the traps didn't only pose a threat for him, but also for the numerous other victims trapped at the asylum. One of these prisoners was saved by Tapp from a trap early on in his own series of tests, before they parted ways. The prisoner however was tested on his own and was forced to impede Tapp's progress. When Tapp entered a room, only minutes after saving him, the prisoner attacked him from behind and knocked him down with a baseball bat, which he had found there. When Tapp asked him what he was doing, the man assured him that it was nothing personal, but rather part of his own game, and than adviced Tapp to take a weapon on his own. Just before Tapp got back on his feet, the man went to the next room and closed the door behind him. Through another grate, he witnessed how Tapp was attacked by a second prisoner, who was much more aggressive. Therefore, Tapp grabbed a metal pipe from a trashcan and used it to successfully defend himself by killing his attacker.

Moments later, another TV turned on in the room, where the first man had locked himself up. When the puppet appeared on the screen and mockingly laughed at him, he angrily yelled that his game was over as he had done what he had been told to do. Afterwards, he attempted to leave the room through another door. However, when he opened the door and tried to leave, he was shot by a shotgun, which had been set up above the door. Unable to react, he was killed and fell to the floor before Tapp's eyes. From then on, Tapp himself encountered several of these traps on his way through the asylum. (Saw: The Video Game)

Michael Tapp's Trial[]

Some time later, after had committed suicide, his estranged son, Michael, was abducted by Pighead II, one of Jigsaw's accomplices. Pighead took him to an unknown location, where Michael had to face a series of tests on his own. Throughout his game, which took place at the abandoned Holmes Hotel as well as an abandoned chemical plant, he came across several of the shotgun traps, which worked in exactly the same way as the ones at Whitehurst and could also only just be evaded by taking extreme precaution.
