The Crematorium is a trap from the Saw franchise, appearing in Saw: The Video Game.

Design and Function[]

The crematorium was a large, walkable oven used for the disposal of the bodies of deceased patients of the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. However, it was eventually turned into a deadly trap by John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer. A victim was trapped inside the oven, which was big enough for the person to stand and move around inside. Once the game began, the heat inside the furnace increased and would eventually burn the victim alive. To survive, the test subject had to rely on the help of a second person. In order to save the victim from the oven, this second person had to reroute the gas lines leading to the burners of the furnace. (Saw: The Video Game)

History[]

David Tapp's Test[]

The persons tested in this trap were David Tapp, a detective obsessed with apprehending the Jigsaw Killer, and Obi Tate, a man who saw Jigsaw's tests as some kind of gifts and desired to be tested himself. Therefore he was called by Jigsaw to come to the abandoned Whitehurst Asylum, where he was trapped inside the furnace. When he woke up again, he was greeted by Jigsaw and expressed his admirance for him and his work. However, he got angry when Jigsaw told him that he couldn't save himself but rather had to rely on the help of another person, as this was the only way for him to understand the reason for Jigsaw's work and his message in his attempt to convince his victims to appreciate their lives.

Hello, Obi. You have isolated yourself from society, creating a life so empty that you have come to me for your test, for a reason to live. You wish to become like me. But the only way to give others the chance to live life is to understand why it is so precious. The room you are in is a large furnace. Detective Tapp is your only hope of redemption. If he fails, the temperature will increase and the liquid within your body will boil you alive. Time is short.
— Obi Tate's tape[src]

When Tapp finally reached the hall where Obi was trapped, a TV turned on in front of them. Jigsaw's mechanical ventriloquist puppet appeared on the screen and once more confronted Obi with his desire to be tested by Jigsaw.

When the tape ended and the TV turned off again, the furnace started to heat up. Therefore, Tapp tried to reroute the gas lines. Eventually, he was able to finish his task and thereby opened the door of the furnace, enabling Obi to escape. Obi however wasn't grateful for his salvation and instead angrily yelled at Tapp, whom he accused of having ruined his game. To Tapp's surprise and shock, Obi also told him that he had put an advertisement in the newspaper, where he had asked Jigsaw to be tested, and was therefore told to come to the asylum. Even though Tapp was shocked and called him crazy, the two of them went on and continued their way together. (Saw: The Video Game)
