I can't let him live in a world with people like you in it!
— Campbell, upon attacking Jigsaw[src]

Campbell Iman is a fictional character from the Saw franchise. He was the secondary protagonist of Saw II: Flesh & Blood.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Campbell Iman was the father of a young boy. However, as he was addicted to drugs, he found himself unable to be a good father and abandoned him when he was still a child. His son eventually became an addict as well. At some point, Campbell was diagnosed with a malign lymphoma. Even though he was treated by the renowned oncologist Dr. Lawrence Gordon, there was no hope that his terminal state would get better as the treatment did not work. Feeling remorse for the relationship with his son, Campbell decided to search for him to spend his last remaining months with him. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Abduction[]

Eventually, Campbell was targeted by John Kramer, better known as the Jigsaw Killer. Jigsaw or one of his accomplices kidnapped and took him to an abandoned railway building, where they had prepared a deadly game for him. While Campbell was still unconscious, he underwent surgery, during which a key was placed behind his right eye. This key would later become the only way for Campbell to save himself from one of Jigsaw's traps, a so-called death mask. The two halves of this mask were spiked with nails on the inside. They were horizontally positioned before and behind Campbell's head, similar to a Venus flytrap. Additionally, a strange symbol was carved into his chest. After finishing their preparations, Campbell's abductors seated him on a chair in the middle of a room. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

First Test[]

CampbellMask

Campbell wakes up.

When Campbell finally woke up, he panicked and tried to remove the mask with brute force. As he jumped up from the chair, a TV turned on before him, and a mechanical ventriloquist puppet named Billy appeared on-screen. It confronted Campbell with both his and his son's drug addiction and their strained relationship, stating that Campbell did not even know if his son was still alive. However, it also offered to show him the truth about his son, but only if he was willing to play his game.

CampbellEyeMask

Campbell cuts open his scar.

As the TV turned off again, Campbell spotted an X-ray of his head on the wall. Realizing that the key to the mask was hidden in his orbital cavity, he grabbed a scalpel from a small table nearby. Although the mask's timer was ticking down quickly, Campbell tried to stay calm and slowly cut open the scar below his eye. Eventually, he ripped the key out of his wound and freed himself from the mask, only seconds before it slammed shut. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

The Symbol[]

CampbellMirror

Campbell notices the mirror.

In an attempt to find a way out, Campbell quickly calmed down and tried to find the exit. As he entered the next room, he saw the words "Now is the time to take a hard look at yourself" written on the wall. Additionally, there was a heavy metal door with a strange lock consisting of multiple dials with symbols drawn on and the words "Look around" next to them. As Campbell followed the advice, he saw himself in a mirror on the wall and was shocked when he noticed the symbol carved into his chest. However, he understood the true meaning of the clue and opened the metal door by turning the dials until they fit the emblem on his flesh. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Illumination[]

In the next room, Campbell found a flashlight on a small table. As he picked it up, the face of the puppet appeared on multiple TV screens around him. The doll told him the light could reveal what was hidden but warned him that relying on it would "obscure the path." Campbell attached the flashlight to his leather harness and looked around the room. He noticed a chart with the message, "You can see, but do you understand, Campbell?". As he turned off the flashlight, the numbers 5-7-3 suddenly appeared on the chart as they had been written with fluorescent color and were only visible in the dark. Upon finding this clue, Campbell opened a combination lock securing the next door. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Going On[]

CampbellWall

Campbell destroys the wall.

In the next room, he saw that one of the walls was severely damaged. Using a heavy pipe from a nearby table, Campbell destroyed the wall and opened a new passage. After passing it, he saw through a window and witnessed another prisoner. The latter tried to go through a door. However, as he opened it, he was impaled by a scythe that swung down from the ceiling. Terrified by this, Campbell went on. As he did, he saw another panicked man who ran away from a mysterious hooded figure.

A few moments later, Campbell spotted another man on the floor behind a fence. However, the man lost consciousness when he tried to crawl forward. Unable to reach him, Campbell continued his path and noticed the words "History repeats itself?" written on a wall. As he opened the next door, another scythe swung down, just like the one that had just killed one of the other victims. Campbell, however, evaded it and remained unharmed. Seconds later, he realized he was in the same hallway as the last man he had seen. When he approached him, the man regained consciousness but was dragged into the room behind him by another person with a pig mask. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Bullish Man[]

Campbell faces his attacker.

Campbell could not follow him as the door slammed shut behind the man. Therefore, he turned around and went the opposite way. Upon leaving the hallway, Campbell found himself in a small open area. While looking around, he saw the warning message "Watch your step" written on a wall above an elevator. When he pressed the button to call it, the doors opened and revealed another victim of Jigsaw. The man wore a cage-like device with several pointy spikes on his head and had his hands tied up behind his back. Another set of TVs turned on, showing the puppet. It warned Campbell that the man would try to kill him and that he could not stand against his strength. However, it also told him that "gravity" could help defeat him.

CampbellRammer

Campbell is attacked.

As the TVs turned off, the man immediately charged at Campbell in an attempt to kill him with the spikes of the cage device. Even though Campbell tried to convince him to stop, his opponent repeatedly attacked him. Therefore, Campbell pressed the elevator button and opened the doors once more. When the man ran toward him again, Campbell quickly evaded his attack. Unable to stop soon enough, the attacker ran through the open doors and fell down the elevator well. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Final Test[]

Following the man's death, another door opened. Campbell went on and progressed through several hallways. As he finally went through another metal door, he witnessed the pig-masked figure once more behind a fence as they dragged the body of another victim away. At the same time, another set of TVs turned on in front of Campbell. Jigsaw's puppet revealed the killer's knowledge of Campbell's cancer disease and his attempts to find his son. As promised, it told him the truth about him. Campbell's son was, indeed, still alive and had passed one of Jigsaw's tests in the meantime. However, Campbell himself had to face one final task before he was allowed to see him.

CampbellElevator

Campbell sees the elevator.

Another door opened next to Campbell. As he entered the following room, it slammed shut behind him, and the lights turned on. Before him was a gaping chasm, and only a single wooden beam led to the other side. The last TV turned on, and Jigsaw's puppet introduced Campbell to his final test. It informed him about Michael Tapp, a young man about the same age as Campbell's son, who was trapped on the floor above. Once the game began, the walls and ceiling would move toward each other. To survive, Campbell and Michael had to walk across the beam to reach a glass elevator on the other side of the chasm. However, the elevator was only big enough for one of them, so the other participant inevitably had to die.

CampbellDeath

The swinging scythe impales Campbell.

  • Path of Blood: After the introduction to the game, the walls and ceiling began moving. Due to Campbell's desire to see his son, he walked over the beam and reached the elevator in time. As it went up, he saw Michael, who desperately tried to enter the cabin but was crushed to death by the ceiling in front of Campbell's eyes. The door finally opened when the elevator arrived on the upper floor. When he left the cabin, another door opened next to him. Jigsaw appeared and informed Campbell that his son was alive and unharmed. He offered his prisoner a chance to leave the building to see him. However, Campbell was furious and charged at Jigsaw, yelling that he could not let his son live in a world with people like him. Jigsaw evaded his attack, and Campbell was impaled by a scythe swinging from the ceiling. As he died, Jigsaw ended his game and remarked on his failure with the words, "Game Over."
  • Path of Flesh: After the introduction to the game, the walls and ceiling began moving. Michael walked over the beam and reached the elevator in time. Meanwhile, Campbell died in the room by unknown means. (Saw II: Flesh & Blood)

Personality[]

Not much is known about Campbell Iman's personality during his early life. However, it can be assumed that he cared deeply for his son, even though he barely knew him, as he wished for him to have a better life. When Campbell was diagnosed with terminal cancer, he regretted abandoning him and decided to spend his remaining life looking for him. Throughout his imprisonment, Campbell was determined to escape from Jigsaw and was willing to endure severe physical pain to overcome his gruesome tasks. While doing so, he rarely displayed any signs of fear or panic and remained calm even in hazardous situations.
