The victim of this trap was Detective David Tapp. He woke up trapped inside the abandoned Whitehurst Insane Asylum. In order to escape, he had to find his way through the building and face a series of tests in order to overcome his obsession with catching John Kramer, the Jigsaw Killer. Throughout his trial, he would receive several tools, which could help him to finish his tasks.
The victim of this trap was Detective David Tapp. It was the first part of his trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. He was strapped to the armrests of a chair in the middle of a bathroom and had a mechanical contraption, a so-called Reverse Beartrap, locked onto his head. The frontal part of the trap was hooked into his upper and his lower jaw. Once the game began, the trap would burst open and thereby rip his face apart if he wasn't able to unlock the trap within 60 seconds. However, he had to accomplish this task without a key. Several other victims at the asylum also wore such beartraps. Their only chance to survive was to obtain a key, which was hidden inside Tapp's body.
The victim of this trap was Amanda Young. It was the second major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. This trap consisted of three parts. The first one was a medical chair, with elongated off-standing legrests. Amanda's arms and legs were shackled to their respective rests by several metallic shackles. Once the game began, two syringes, which were attached to the ends of the armrests, injected her with a deadly poison. To survive, she had to rely on the help of David Tapp. Tapp had to sit down on a mechanical seat next to her. After doing so, a gear system was activated and caused two syringes to inject a different poison in his neck. In the middle of them was another large machine, which processed colored vials of the different antidotes. Tapp had to make sure that each vial of the antidote had to be processed to the right chair: the red vials would cure Amanda while the blue vials would save himself. If he made too many mistakes, the administration of the wrong antidote would first increase the symptoms of the poison and eventually kill both of them.
The victim of this trap was Detective David Tapp. It was a part of his trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. The shotgun collar was a removable collar which could be easily put around its victim's neck. There were five shotgun shells placed around the collar, directly aiming at the Tapp's head. Each of these shells had an own trigger which all had to be activated individually. The collar was attuned to some kind of signal. If this signal got lost, for example if the test subject moved out of range, the collar would be activated, causing it to blow off the victim's head. Several other victims at the asylum also wore such beartraps. Their only chance to survive was to obtain a key, which was hidden inside Tapp's body. Once they got close to Tapp, both his and their collars were activated. If Tapp stayed too close to them, his collar would detonate after a few seconds. However, the same would happen to the other victim if Tapp moved too far away. Therefore, one of them inevitably had to die.
The victim of this trap was Jennings Foster. It was the third major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. Jennings' arms and feet were strapped to a metal table with shackles. Positioned to the right and the left of the table were two long metal columns. Mounted to their upper ends was a contraption, which held a large blade in the shape of a pendulum. Once the game began, the pendulum started to swing back and forth and would be lowered down in regular intervals. Eventually, it would vertically slice Jennings' body in half. To survive, he had to rely on the help of David Tapp. Positioned around the table were three panels with gears. Tapp had to connect them by putting more additional gears of varying sizes between them. If one series of gears was connected successfully, the pendulum, if lowered down already, would return to its original position, thereby granting Tapp more time to finish the task.
The victim of this trap was Melissa Sing. It was the fourth major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. Melissa stood on a pedestal and was held in place by two boot-like contraptions. In the center of the pedestal was a large winch. Attached to it were two elongated plates, one behind and one in front of Melissa. There were six circular saw blades mounted to each of the plates. To survive, she had to rely on the help of David Tapp. Positioned around the trap were three large glass boxes containing magnetic cubes. Tapp had to move these cubes to the correct circuit in order to short circuit the saws. Failing to avoid shorting out the batteries holding the plates with the saws in place would have resulted in both plates slamming shut on Melissa.
The victim of this trap was Oswald McGillicutty. It was the fifth major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. The Backbreaker was a mechanical chair, which was mounted onto a pedestal in a prone position. Originally, the chair was designed as a medical restraint for aggressive patients with psychotic disorders. It consisted of several movable segments, which could be moved in different directions. In detail, there were segments for the fixation of Oswald's legs, back and head as well as two restraints for his arms which were spread to both sides. Once the game began, the arm segments were slowly twisted backwards and thereby bended Oswald's arms until they broke. After that, the same would be done with the his back until the spine broke, resulting the Oswald's death. To survive, he had to rely on the help of a David Tapp. Within four minutes, Tapp had to reverse the electric motors of the trap by bypassing three circuit panels on the walls.
The victim of this trap was Obi Tate. It was the sixth major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. The crematorium was a large, walkable oven used for the disposal of the bodies of deceased patients of the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. However, it was eventually turned into a deadly trap by Jigsaw. Obi Tate was trapped inside the oven, which was big enough for the person to stand and move around inside. Once the game began, the heat inside the furnace increased and would eventually burn Obi alive. To survive, he had to rely on the help of David Tapp. In order to save Obi from the oven, Tapp had to reroute the gas lines leading to the burners of the furnace.
The victim of this trap was Jeff Ridenhour. It was the seventh major part of David Tapp's trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. Jeff was strapped to a metal platform in a standing position. Behind the platform was a machine with several long, thin, pointy metal spikes. To survive, he had to rely on the help of David Tapp. There were 16 monitors, each one with a different picture on screen. Tapp had to play a matching game and had to choose, which two pictures fitted together until all eight pairs were found. For every mistake, one of the metal spikes rushed through a tiny hole in the platform and pierced Jeff's body. It was pulled back again if Tapp found a correct pair of pictures. After five mistakes in a row, the final spike pierced Jeff's head, killing him in the process.
The victim of this trap was Detective David Tapp. It was the eighth and final major part of his trial at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum. After facing his previous tests, Tapp found himself in front of two doors, one with the word "Freedom", the other one with the word "Truth" written on them. He could either choose to let go of his obsession with Jigsaw in exchange for the freedom of all remaining victims who were still trapped at Whitehurst, including himself, or he could decide to uncover the truth about Jigsaw and thereby condemn all the other prisoners.
The victim of this trap was Melissa Sing. After having been saved from the Iron Maiden by David Tapp, she had to face another test on her own. An audio tape informed her that Jigsaw had also abducted her son, Franklin Sing. In order to save him, she had to follow Jigsaw's instructions and had to keep Tapp on track until 6:00 o'clock. Eager to see her son again, Melissa accepted her task and put several obstacles in Tapp's path. To prevent her from warning Tapp, her mouth was sewn shut.
The Death Mask was a mechanical contraption which worked similar to an iron maiden and was placed around the victim's neck. It consisted of two parts of a metal mask, the back and the front part. Both parts were angled down from the victim's head. The inside of both parts was spiked with numerous pointy nails. A timer was attached to one side of it. Usually the victim had 60 seconds to find the key, unlock the trap and remove it. If the victim failed to do so, the mask would close on the victim's head, resulting in the nails piercing the skull. Additionally a leather harness was attached to the victim's chest and secured with a padlock to hold the device in place. Several victims at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum wore such devices. Their only chance to survive was to obtain a key, which was hidden inside David Tapp's body.
The Head Box was a large metal box, which was locked onto its victim's head and was secured by a leather harness that the victim was forced to wear. While the box itself posed no visible threat, it prevented the victim from seeing anything around them, thereby forcing them to rely on their hearing entirely. Several victims at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum wore such devices. Their only chance to survive was to obtain a key, which was hidden inside David Tapp's body.
The explosive cube was a small, cubical glass box with an explosive inside it. It was attached to its victim's, who had to cling on the explosive it. If the person dropped it, the cube detonated in the process. Several victims at the Whitehurst Insane Asylum wore such devices. Their only chance to survive was to obtain a key, which was hidden inside David Tapp's body.
This trap consisted of a single shotgun, which was attached to a wall above a door. A metal weight was connected to the trigger. Once the door was opened, the weight was lowered down and thereby pulled the trigger, causing the shotgun to fire a shot. As there was no way to deactivate these traps from the other side of the room, the victims who came across it had no other choice but to exercise extreme caution. Several of these traps were set up all around the abandoned Whitehurst Insane Asylum, posing a threat to every prisoner.
This trap consisted of two large blades, which were positioned to the right and the left of a door. They were connected to a tripwire, which was strung across the floor. When a victim stepped on the tripwire, the blades would rush towards each other and kill the person if they didn't manage to evade them. It was set up to secure a hallway of the Whitehurst Insane Asylum.
